Nutrition Products Limited (NPL) is a Statutory Body which operates under the portfolio of the Ministry of Education.  It was established in 1973 and incorporated as a Limited Liability company in 1974.  The Board of Directors sets policies for the company and the day-to-day operations are managed by a team headed by a Chief Executive Officer and his/her Department Managers.

The Company is charged with the responsibility for the production and distribution of nutritious snacks to schools island-wide, under a national nutrition programme.

In recognition of the severity of the problem of malnutrition among school aged children, the government, in 1971, signed a contract with A.R.A. Services Inc. of Philadelphia, USA, to provide management services to set up and operate a central kitchen capable of providing hot meals on a daily basis for 50,000 school children.  Production began in 1973 under the School Feeding Programme.  This was subsequently changed to Nutrition Products Centre and later renamed Nutrition Products Limited.

Nutrition Products Limited currently operates a School Feeding Programme which comprises baked products and sachets of milk/juice.  These products are provided at a minimal contribution to the over 1000 educational institutions/schools we assist, and our funding comes directly from the Government.  We are however, assisted by local and international donor agencies.

The Company operates three production plants which are located in Kingston, St. Mary and Westmoreland.

At NPL, our employees are very important and as such, we have provided opportunities for personal and professional development through programmes of continuous training.  Consequently, through the efforts of our dedicated and committed staff, some of whom have been with the Company since its inception, we have been able to achieve our mandate of serving nutritious meals to the children of Jamaica.
